A total of one hundred and twenty five patients with bladder tumors, which were admitted to Department of Urology, Seoul National University Hospital during the period from July, 1978 to June, 1981, were evaluated and reviewed retrospectively.
The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. There were 100 males and 25 females with a ratio to 4:1.
2. The age was ranged from 18 to 84 years old with a mean 58.7 years old and the most common age group was 50 to 70 years old (60.8% of the total).
3. Seventy two patients (57.6%) out of the total patients visited the hospital between three and twelve months after the appearance of the initial symptom.
4. The predominant symptoms were hematuria (82.4%), difficult urination (68.8%) and frequency (52.8%).
5. Urinalysis revealed that infected sign was founding 29.6% (37 cases).
6. The cytologic examination were positive in 49.5%.
7. On IVP, 79 cases (63.2%) had normal upper urinary tract and 67 cases (53.6%) had filling defect in the bladder.
8. Regarding to the origin, 44 cases had multiple tumors, 35 cases had the tumor at the lateral wall and 23 cases had it at the trigone area.
9. T.U.R. was performed in 56 cases (84 times), cystostomy and fulguration in 30 cases (34 times), partial cystectomy in 31 cases, Bricker´s operation with total cystectomy in 33 cases, only urinary diversion in 5 cases (3 nephrostomy; 1 ureterocutaneostomy; and 1 ureteroileocutaneostomy).
10. Of the total patients, 107 cases (85.6%) were transitional cell carcinoma, 6 cases (4.8%) were squamous cell carcinoma and 4 cases (3.2%) were adenocarcinoma on pathologic examination.
11. Bone scan was made in 17 cases with a result of multiple hot areas in only 2 cases.
